Thomas  Carman  Food  Pantry

Our Food Sources

A major portion of the food provided by the Pantry is purchased from the Food Bank of Monterey County located in Salinas. Weekly runs to the Food Bank are made by volunteers to stock the Panty shelves in order to provide the basic ingredients for the food bags handed out each week. Most food is stored in the pantry. The basement of the nearby Community of Christ Church is used to store canned goods and other non-perishable items until they were needed at the Pantry.

The Trader Joe's Grocery Store in Monterey donates meat, produce, fruit, bread, milk and eggs each week. Jeannie Quaglia coordinates the sorting of these donations and other volunteers transport the food each week to the Pantry.

The Pantry also purchases food items from the Grocery Outlet and Save Mart grocery stores in Marina, often at discount prices. The pantry purchases 100 turkeys to distribute each Thanksgiving; the Grocery Outlet makes the turkeys available at discount prices.

The Pantry maintains food barrels for donations in a number of locations around the City of Marina, including at Rabobank, the Grocery Outlet, Marina City Hall, schools and other local businesses.
